“The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in.”
B.K.S. Iyenga
If an apple has impurities or is covered in pesticides, when it is eaten our body has to detoxify and digest the impurities before being able to absorb the goodness of the apple. The same goes for our yoga practice. If we are ‘impure’ when we practice, we will not absorb the true goodness of our yoga and gain from its ‘magic’. We will first have to deal with our impurities. By this we are not only thinking about the physical but of mind, body, spirit and surroundings … and of everything that we bring into the yoga room with us. Saucha is the first Niyama, (the second of Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga) and often translates as cleanliness of mind body and soul. We will consider this on Thursday … as you lie on your mat at the start of the session, perhaps consider what you have brought with you that may be detracting from the purity of your practice.
I am looking forward to seeing you all again on Thursday- an opportunity in this busy lead up to Christmas to offer ourselves some time to relax, rejuvenate and recharge our batteries.
Our candle lit class will offer not only cleansing breathwork to clear the body and mind, but also strengthening yoga postures and above all, a restorative shivasana practice with a guided meditative body scan lasting 15 minutes. What more could we wish for to shake off the stresses of our hectic lives!
With love to you all
