It has been shown that a strong core gives us a stronger mind … it can make us more resolute, determined and focussed in our daily life. In addition core muscles which are strong can
- Protect our pelvic area and lower spine
- Provide strength and support when we cough, sneeze, vomit
- Provide strength, stability and support when the body is static and in movement
- Help with correct alignment of the body and spine and give good posture
Our breath also plays a large part in our core strength. If our breath is erratic, shallow and short this will be detrimental to our core stability … and the reverse is also true.
The word “core” evokes a feeling of “centre” and “strength” and the core of our body is often described as our “hug” muscle and this creates a feeling of security and stability deep within us. When our body core is weak it can make us feel vulnerable and insecure. .
By moving our body and releasing tension in different muscles, by breathing deeply, slowly and into our abdomen, and by being mindful of how we are feeling and where our mind is at any given time, we can free up space in our mind and body through which free flowing energy, life and breath can move. By building strength in our core we can create the grounding and roots from which we can grow our wings to freedom.
Our core is the very centre of our being … if this is strong then we will find we feel more calm and have more freedom, strength and empowerment in our body, mind, and life in general.
Tomorrow in our session we will focus on core strengthening postures to help us feel grounded, secure, strong, positive and empowered, leaving us feeling we can take on the world!
