What a difference a day makes!! 24 little hours!!
We can travel from stormy and angry to peace and calm in such a short space of time and whilst the weather and external forces are not within our power, how we feel inside is completely in our control.
Our yoga practices can help us move from feeling uprooted and frazzled to a sense of grounding, steadiness and calm in a few minutes. All we have to do is practice and the more we practice, the easier this transition becomes. It can be even more simple than going to a yoga class, all we need is to notice our breath, change it and notice again …..and we can feel like a calm smooth sea

Did you know that our exhale is slightly more calming to our central nervous system than our inhale?? Did you know that breathing into the abdomen slows our system down and brings a sense of calm? And have you ever practised the Ujjayi breath or Ocean breath which actively massages the vagus nerve and sends a message to the brain to tell it we are safe, and as a result the brain sends a beautiful wave of calm through our whole being …..?
We all know that in life its not what happens to us that matters……. Its how we deal with it that makes all the difference. And this is totally up to us. Its our choice whether we allow ourselves to get caught up in a frenzy of thought and activity or whether to take a break and bring ourselves back to stillness and calm. When we are calm we can see things more clearly … the old reptilian brain disengages and the newer frontal brain brings regulation and discernment to help us move forward with a more planned, useful ,supportive approach to our life and what is going on for and around us.
Our practice is waiting for us and we can encourage it through our classes and personal practice* …. With this in mind I look forward so much to sharing the power, wonder and “magic” of yoga with you this week both in person in Lyme Regis and online wherever you are!!
