BALASANA – Baby pose – relax, rejuvenate and invigorate …..

Namaste Yoga Lovers!!

Wow what a wonderful weekend!!  The world seems more alive and energised.  So good for our wellbeing and health in general to get some fresh air and exercise in the great outdoors!  Whatever you are doing I hope you are having a great time this weekend!

This Thursday we will spend some time in Child Pose/Baby Pose – Balasana!   If you are like me, when my Yoga Teacher says the next posture is Baby Pose, a wave of relaxation spreads over me…. time to rest – and a lot more.

The advantages of the pose are many fold:

 1.   It nourishes and nurtures – placing your “third eye” – the space between your brows, on the ground brings an instant calming and soothing effect to the brain.  By folding the body inwards a message is sent to the brain that you are safe and that its ok to relax.  If you have a busy mind then this is a great place to rest a while.

2.   It’s a great posture to massage internal organs.  By breathing deeply whilst in the pose the abdomen will be gently pushed into the thighs and this will  help relieve wind and move things along through our digestive system.

3.   Standing or sitting at desks for long periods can mean our lower back is compressed – Baby Pose will relieve this compression, lengthening our spine and opening our sacram

4.   Modern day life can mean our hips become tight and cramped – this pose opens the hips and stretches the muscles, helping to bring relief and provide more healthy hips

5.   Finally and above all Baby Pose brings balance to our practice.  We can spend a lot of our lives “pushing” ourselves to do more.   We need balance in our lives and therefore this pose reminds us to rest – bringing balance of calm and relaxation in contrast to the energising and strengthening postures.

Enjoy!! Relax, rejuvenate and invigorate your life with your next yoga practice!

I so look forward to seeing you on Thursday … there are currently 3 spaces in the session …. Be quick if you would like one, as you know, they fill up fast!
